Polestar Technologies Awarded 12-Month Contract to Develop a Non-Imaging System to Detect Concealed Explosives and Anomalies for
the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division

Needham, Mass – March 22, 2022 – Polestar Technologies Inc., a woman-owned small
business in Massachusetts, has recently been awarded a contract funded by Explosive
Detection Equipment (EDE) Branch at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division
in Maryland. The contract is being funded to develop a non-imaging system to detect concealed
anomalies and identify concealed explosives on people at 15-20 meters (50-65 feet) standoff
distance using multispectral analysis.

Over the next 12 months, Polestar Technologies will design and develop the system and
demonstrate the ability to detect anomalies. Working with the EDE Branch, they will provide
oversight as well as testing.

The Polestar Team will leverage their broad experience in innovative technologies in optical
sensing. “We are proud to be a part of such an important project. The technology, used to
detect explosives hidden under the clothes by a person from a safe standoff distance, could
protect a large number of people and safeguard important infrastructures,” said Karen
Carpenter, founder, and CEO of Polestar Technologies. “This technology could be a game-changer, allowing people to feel safe during uncertain times, and we are proud of that.”

Polestar Technologies has previously supported the Naval Surface Warfare Center by providing
protection from chemical and biological contaminants hidden in a variety of packages, in
addition to developing a portable soil analyzer to identify contaminants in the soil for the U.S.
Department of Energy. This contract will have a 12-month base period, with an option to extend
the contract another 6 months.
